Duncan, OK (September 12, 2024) - A two-vehicle collision outside of Duncan on Wednesday, September 11, left one person dead. The fatal crash took place on Duncan Bypass at around 5 p.m. It was later revealed that a passenger car and a sport utility vehicle collided at the scene.
For unknown reasons, one of the vehicles crossed the centerline on the roadway, colliding head-on with an oncoming driver. The area was temporarily shut down as local authorities worked to clear the scene. The vehicles involved sustained significant damage and had to be towed from the scene. No further information on the crash is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident is being handled by local law enforcement officials.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Certain types of crashes are more likely to end in serious or life-threatening injuries. Head-on crashes are some of the deadliest collisions possible on American roads. According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), head-on impacts have a nearly 56 percent fatality rate, making them much deadlier than other types of crashes. Despite making up less than two percent of reported crashes nationwide, head-on collisions contribute to nearly 10 percent of reported traffic fatalities on average. These crashes are often caused by drivers who veer into oncoming traffic and crash into other vehicles. If someone close to you is unfairly killed in a collision, you should pursue a wrongful death claim with the help of a skilled legal team.
