Eufaula, OK (September 30, 2024) - On Saturday, September 28, a man was killed and others were injured after a crash involving multiple motorcycles in the Eufaula area. The deadly accident took place near the crossing of Highway 9 and South 4280 Road late that night around 7 p.m. Local reports revealed that 34-year-old James Harp was operating a motorcycle with a female passenger when he was involved in a crash with two other motorcycles and a passenger car.
Emergency crews were rushed to the scene. Harp was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead on Sunday, September 29, that morning around 3 a.m. The female passenger on his bike, along with the rider and another passenger on the other motorcycle, were also hospitalized for treatment. The third motorcyclist refused treatment. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
We would like to offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims and their families in hopes of a full recovery.
In Oklahoma, motorcycles are a popular pastime. Riders do not have the same safety features as people in passenger cars, meaning that motorcyclists are more likely to suffer serious injuries. In 2020, there were 1,231 motorcycle crashes reported across the Sooner State. At least 661 people were hurt and 62 died in motorcycle crashes that year. Statistics show that riders are almost 28 times more likely to suffer fatal injuries and almost four times more likely to be hurt in a crash. The majority of motorcycle accidents involve at least one other vehicle.
