Riding a motorcycle leaves you exposed to the dangers of the road, and riders are overwhelmed in deadly collisions nationwide. In 2020, more than 5,500 bikers died on U.S. roads, and more than 180,000 were hurt in crashes and taken to emergency rooms. A motorcycle rider is 30 times more likely to die in an accident than someone in a passenger car. About 20 percent of car accidents cause injuries or deaths, compared to 80 percent of motorcycle crashes. Teenagers and adults under 40 are about 20 times less likely to be hurt in car crashes than those the same age. Most motorcycle deaths happen very often on city streets, during the daytime when the roads and streets are busy and hectic. Moreover, even though wearing a helmet lowers the risk, 60 percent of deaths still happen when helmets are worn.
