Purcell, OK (December 17, 2024) – An Oklahoma man was killed after being struck on a state highway outside of Purcell on Sunday, December 15. The deadly accident took place on OK-74 near 130th Street late that evening. Local reports revealed that an initial crash involving a 2022 Ram 2500 and a 2013 Ford Explorer took place on the highway leading up to the fatal accident.
After the initial crash, 55-year-old Kenneth Ray Jones of Healdton exited one of the vehicles, which was now stalled on the road. Jones was reportedly struck by another approaching car. Emergency crews were dispatched to assist at the scene, and Jones was transported to a hospital in Purcell in critical condition. He was later pronounced dead. No further information on the deadly accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash is being managed by local law enforcement officials.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
When a pedestrian shares the road with a motor vehicle, there is always a greater chance of serious injuries. About one in five deaths in the past year involved pedestrians. In Oklahoma, 104 pedestrians were killed in car accidents in 2021, and another 149 were severely hurt, showing just how dangerous it can be to walk along the state's roads. A lot of accidents in Oklahoma involve pedestrians, and most of them take place outside of intersections. Oklahoma has a pedestrian fatality rate of nearly 13 percent, lower than the national rate of 17 percent. However, just one death is too many, and you need to be ready to take action to pursue justice after a deadly accident.
