Pedestrians are some of the most vulnerable people on the road. For this reason and more, pedestrians are over-represented in national roadway fatalities, and there is an increased risk of death and serious injury in related traffic accidents. An estimated one in six fatalities in a recent year involved pedestrians, according to the latest accident statistics. According to findings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), nearly 13 percent of roadway deaths in 2021 in Oklahoma involved a pedestrian.
