Turpin, KS (September 30, 2024) - A man was killed after a multi-vehicle crash outside of Turpin on Sunday, September 29. The deadly crash took place on US-83 early that morning around 1:41 a.m. Local reports revealed that 41-year-old Serjio Rutiaga and 22-year-old Levi Macias, both from Liberal, were traveling on the highway when they were involved in an initial crash.
It was then that 52-year-old Christopher Hickman of Hemphill, TX hit both vehicles. Emergency responders were rushed to the scene to provide the necessary aid to the involved parties. Neither Hickman nor Macias were injured in the crash. Despite life-saving measures from attending medical personnel, Rutiaga suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The area was temporarily closed while emergency crews were present. No further information on the accident is currently available. An ongoing investigation into the cause of the deadly crash is in the hands of local law enforcement officials.
